Finnish designer and artist Tapio Wirkkala characterizes his work by the ability to work on different materials: with this knowledge he has created many different products from banknotes to furniture to jewelry. Despite his world-class artistic profile he loved to stay in the Finnish natural environment where he found inspiration for his works. He has made numerous glass objects such as the series Ultima Thule and Tapio for Venini. Among the techniques used there is the "Incalmo" in combination with the "Mezzafiligrana" and "Murrine". Furthermore he was artistic director for Iittala.
